Run by a cast of Hollywood’s most celebrated comedians, Ghostbusters rose to the top of the charts following its release in 1984.
In REELZ’s new series, Ghostbusters Behind Closed Doors, host Natalie Morales interviews film insiders such as Dan Aykroyd, who played “Dr. Raymond Stantz” and movie director Ivan Reitman. With insight from the people behind the scenes, the special provides viewers with an inside look at to how the project came together.
Kicking off the show, Morales asks director Ivan Reitman what he thinks of Bill Murray, the star of the film.
“He’s unique. He’s really one of the great comic voices in the English language. He has the ability to take a line that’s just so-so, and just put his own kind of very special Chicago spin on it. And it’s funny, and it’s not just the way he says it, his mind is working all the time,” says Reitman.
Actor Dan Aykroyd pitched Murray, 68, his role in Ghostbusters as soon as he had the idea.
Asked what Murray thought of the part, Aykroyd says: “Well, he read it and we didn’t hear from him for a while and then he said he was gonna do it.”
Murray’s verbal agreement was enough for the team.
