MTV Road Rules star Brian Lancaster has tragically died at 43.

The reality star was found deceased in his Pennsylvania home last Thursday. The cause of death is believed to be heart failure, as the 43-year-old had a history of arrhythmia — an abnormal heart rhythm.

Brian was 23 when he competed on MTV’s Road Rules back in 1999. Although he didn’t win the grand prize, he competed on 13 different “missions” over the course of 15 episodes.

Brian’s family described him as “an outdoorsman and daredevil.” He had his Master’s degree in elementary education and was engaged to be married to Sarah J. Bell.

An obituary posted online described him as a “jack of all trades,” noting that he had worked as an advertising account manager, a telecommunications project manager, a special education teacher and a bartender.

“Brian excelled at being a human being rather than a human doing,” the obituary read. “Constant in his soul and spirit, he would share possessions, thoughts and every part of his essence with anyone who came into his orbit.”

In lieu of flowers, Lancaster’s family asked that contributions be made in his name to Brandywine Valley SPCA, a no-kill animal shelter in his hometown of West Chester, Pennsylvania.
