Money can’t buy happiness, but for stars at the level of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, it may buy the bliss of a baby. According to a new report, the duo have hired a surrogate to carry their third child.
This joyous news seems to indicate that the couple have emerged from a tumultuous period with their bond intact. Between Kim’s gunpoint robbery in Paris last October and the psychological issues that landed Kanye in the hospital over Thanksgiving, their three-year marriage had been strained almost to the breaking point, insiders say. Now, a new baby could be the perfect way to celebrate their union. “I’d just love nothing more than to expand my family,” Kim said recently.
And surrogacy turned out to be the only way. Kim, 36, had serious complications with her first two pregnancies and suffered from placenta accreta, a condition that could make it life-threatening for her to carry another child. So she and Kanye, 40, are going a different route to bring their new baby into the world. They’ll reportedly pay the surrogate $45,000, plus an extra $5,000 per baby if the pregnancy results in multiple births. The pair also dropped a $68,850 deposit with the agency that arranged the deal. In signing on, the surrogate must refrain from smoking, drinking, and taking drugs and restrict sexual activities; she’ll also have to avoid hot tubs, cat litter, hair dye and sushi.
“Their first two kids have brought them so much joy,” an insider says of the couple, proud parents of daughter North, 4, and son Saint, 2. “It almost sounds clichéd, but after all they’ve been through together, what better way to reaffirm their love than with a new baby!”
