Rob Lowe couldn’t resist tweeting his own feelings about Ariana’s apology statement after she was caught licking/spitting on pastries in a donut shop over the Fourth of July weekend. Lowe’s tweet came from a TV Guide headline that read “Ariana Grande says she licked doughnuts because she hates child obesity,” to which the “Parks and Rec” star responded in a tweet that said, “As my grandpa would say: ‘Yeah, sure. Pull the other leg, it plays jingle bells!’ #Lame”

There’s more to the story of the Ariana Grande donut licking video than originally met the eye.

On July 8, a video surfaced of the the 22-year-old pop star appearing to sneak mini licks of a few powdered jelly donuts during a visit to Wolfee donut shop in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The donuts were spread out on trays right on the counter, not in the case—a request of the “One Last Time” singer, who apparently asked for samples of all the fresh baked donuts that were being made.

“She kept wanting the donuts in the back because my bakers were baking at that time. So my employee kept going in the back to go get the donuts that they were baking, [then] she brought them out there and put them on top of the donut display, and [Grande] sent her to go get some more,” said store owner Joe Marin, in a report.

The “Love Me Harder” singer’s new boo thing, back-up dancer Ricky Alvarez, got in on the act too, but upon closer inspection of the footage from the stores 10 video cameras, the couple was not licking the donuts— they were spitting on them! Although there are banks that don’t have as much surveillance as this small bakery has— the extra security turned out to be extremely helpful to the owner, who is pissed, and “want(s) an apology”, according to reports. Not only was she “rude” to his employee, she drooled on his baked goods, that were later sold to unsuspecting customers. “I zoomed [the camera into] her mouth, and the powdered ones, she did not lick them, she spit on those. She spit on one of them, and she dared that guy she was seeing and he spit on it, too. I saw they were getting a kick out of it and the two friends she brought, they saw what he did, too,” he said. “Somewhere out there the donuts ended up with a customer because that night we ended up selling out.”

Also caught on camera, to the detriment of the diva, was her offensive choice of words. When an employee placed a fresh tray of donuts in front of Grande, she immediately turned her nose up at the confections, “What the f—k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America! That’s disgusting,”

The comments sent social media into a disapproving tailspin, prompting Grande to release an apology yesterday:

“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rates in the world frustrates me.  We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies.  We need to demand more from our food industry. However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.

Unfortunately, the cat-ear wearing entertainer’s antics has also sparked an investigation into the incident at Wolfee donuts by the police, as well as the Environmental Health department— who are reviewing the security footage to determine if the bakery is in violation of any health codes. No word on whether the police will take any action against the former Nickelodeon star.

What’s more, Grande won’t be at the MLB show due to emergency oral surgery and recovery time, the singer claims in her statement. “I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words.” In Grande’s absence, Demi Lovato will now fill the headliner spot at the Cincinnati concert.
