Meghan Edmonds has emerged from the lioness’ den unscathed… mostly.
The newest cast member of The Real Housewives of Orange County was a no-brainer for the show: Beautiful and wealthy (she recently married former baseball star and current sports announcer Jim Edmonds), she has no qualms about speaking her mind—even when facing off against Vicki Gunvalson, AKA “The O.G. of the O.C.,” who’s been on the show since its 2006 debut and is notoriously hard on newbies.
Vicki is also fiercely protective of on-off boyfriend Brooks Ayers, who’s been accused of lying, cheating and gold digging by various cast members; but Meghan’s accusation may be the most incendiary yet.
“I think he’s faking his diagnosis,” Meghan says of Brooks, who reveals this season that he’s fighting stage three non-Hodgkins lymphoma. “There’s definitely a lot of tension between Vicki and me this season, and there are several reasons—but the main one was that she’s upset I had questions about Brooks’ cancer.” (Vicki calls Meghan’s allegation “disgusting.”) Meghan adds, “I believe the little questions that unfold will intrigue the audience.”
Meghan might not have inserted herself into Brooks’ struggle, had the issue not hit so close to home. While she and hubby Jim normally split time between SoCal and the Midwest, where his work is based, the St. Louis native recently moved to their O.C. residence full-time to set up a home base for Jim’s daughter, Hayley Edmonds, whose mom, Lee Ann Horton (Jim’s first wife) is battling cancer nearby.
“Hayley, who you’ll see a lot on the show, moved into our house because her mother’s sick and undergoing chemotherapy,” Meghan says. “I haven’t talked to Vicki or Brooks since filming ended, but I’m dealing with a woman in my life who’s dying of cancer, and I know it isn’t anything to mess around with. I know that for certain.”
