If you blinked, you may have missed Kanye West almost making a pompous fool of himself — again. In a mock interruption, a la the 2009 VMAs, the “Only One” singer ran onstage just as Beck was accepting the award for Album Of the Year, over Beyonce, at the Grammys on Sunday.
It was an obvious attempt to make fun of himself, as Yeezus jokingly pretended to ‘almost’ intercept the singer’s speech. Not to be pitied, the good-humored winner called after ‘Ye, who turned on his heel to head back into the audience, saying, “Come back, I need some help!” The crowd, meanwhile, had mixed reactions of boos and confused cheers, making it clear that the “Jesus Walks” rapper’s antics were still fresh in everyone’s minds.
Back in 2009, you may recall how the then Kim–less fashion mogul grabbed the microphone from Taylor Swift during her MTV VMAs acceptance speech, claiming he would “let her finish,” but not before screaming that Beyonce had the “best video of all time.” Although an embarrassed and flustered Taylor (only 19 at the time) took it in stride and handled herself with class, the world never quite forgot — and, in case they did, Kanye made sure to remind them!
But even though Kim’s husband was poking fun at himself during the show, he stood by his actions during an interview afterward. “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce,” ‘Ye ranted. “And, at this point, we tired of it.”
Meanwhile, Beck had nothing bad to say about his interruptor. “You can’t please everybody, man,” he said after the show. “I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
And if you were wondering where things stand in the Kanye/Taylor feud — it may finally be over! The pair were seen laughing in the audience afterward, and even posed for photos together. Bygones are definitely bygones in this case!
