Bruce Jenner was driving one of the vehicles involved in a fatal car crash in Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway Saturday afternoon. According to a TMZ report, it looks like the Kardashian patriarch may have even been the cause of the accident.
Towing a trailer carrying an ATV, the Olympian’s Escalade rear-ended a white Lexus, causing it to crash into the Prius in front of it and spin into oncoming traffic, where it was eventually struck by a Hummer. The driver of the Lexus was killed instantly, and injuries ranging in degree of seriousness were suffered by everyone involved, except for Jenner, who was unharmed.
Bruce cooperated fully with investigators, even taking, and passing, a field sobriety test, as well as volunteering to have his blood drawn at the hospital for alcohol testing. Additionally, the L.A. County Sheriff’s department insisted that “[Bruce] did not appear intoxicated or under the influence of anything at the time.”
In an earlier report, a Jenner family source told TMZ that the 65-year-old reality star was being chased by paparazzi before the crash; although later reports seem to dispute that claim. “As of right now, there is no indication that Bruce Jenner was being chased by paparazzi at the time of the crash,” L.t. John Lecrivain told CNN. “There was a possibility that paparazzi was following him at the time of the crash, but that is a very regular occurrence, and [there is] no indication at this time it was a contributing factor of the crash.”
The former athlete has been in the news recently, following last week’s confirmation that he is in the process of transitioning to female, and is set to tape a tell-all interview about the change, to air this spring, with journalist and longtime LFBT supporter Diane Sawyer. An E! unscripted docuseries is also reportedly in the works.
