She knows she has big shoes to fill — but Kathy Griffin is ready to do it! The comedienne appeared on the Today Show Monday to dish on her new gig as the host of Fashion Police, for which she’s taking over for the late Joan Rivers.

“She absolutely left big shoes to fill, and I’m bringing my own slippers,” Kathy laughed. “As you know, Joan and I were great pals, and I will continue, if nothing else, in her fearless style of taking no prisoners.”

Still, she acknowledges that things won’t be exactly the same without Joan on the panel. “Our styles were different, you know, I’m a different human being,” she admitted. “I’m more improvisational and I don’t know what I’m going to say, and neither does anybody else on the panel.”

Of course, Kathy recognizes that she, herself, has been on several worst-dressed lists, and is encouraging fellow celebs to not let a red carpet rating scare them. “I would actually like to encourage the gentlemen and ladies to not play it so safe!” she said.”I think this could be the year where people take some risks…and I like it!”

The first episode of Fashion Police will air on Jan. 12, the day after the Golden Globe Awards.
