Theaters Playing 'The Interview' with Sony's Permission

The Interview Release

The Interview will live on after all. On Tuesday, Sony announced that the film will have a limited theatrical release on its expected Christmas Day premiere date.

“We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day,” Sony Entertainment Chairmen and CEO said in a statement. “At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience. While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”

The Interview was pulled from theaters last week, after a group called the Guardians of Peace, who were also responsible for the Sony hack, made terror threats against any theaters that showed the film.

Sony was publicly criticized by several A-List stars after announcing the decision on Dec. 17, and even President Obama made a point to admit he was disappointed in the decision.
