It’s been almost eight years since the untimely passing of Anna Nicole Smith. But despite the tragic loss, her former boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, and their adorable daughter, DannieLynn, have moved on as a family.
The duo have created a new life away from the bright lights of Hollywood in Larry’s home state of Kentucky, though Anna Nicole’s memory still continues to be a part of their every day lives. Larry invited Star into his home as the dad and daughter prepare for Christmas.
What does Dannielynn want for Christmas?
She’s into her Wii video games, she loves to play Pikachu from Pokemon and also wants a Barbie Dream House, Calico Critters and anything chocolate! But I have scaled back and just give her a few things so she doesn’t turn out spoiled. I am teaching her more about charity, so she appreciates things more.
How do you go about doing that?
We just donated a ton of her toys to kids in need. The other day, we passed a homeless man and I gave him some money. When she read his sign that said he and his family are living in a tent, she told me to turn back around and give him her allowance.
How do you keep Anna Nicole’s memory alive for your daughter?
I tell Dannielynn positive things about her mom. We travel to the Bahamas and visit the grave and the house. I don’t make that trip too heavy for her, so we fill it with fun, usually at The Atlantis Hotel. She loves the water mark.
Do you keep mementos of Anna Nicole around?
I have one of Anna’s special dresses in a display case in our home theater and a few pictures. Anna was a pack rat, so she had dresses and things from all parts of her life…and a ton of shoes. I told Dannielynn I hope she grows into a size 10 so she can fit into Mommy’s shoes, and now she drinks extra milk and measures her feet all the time!
Are you dating anyone?
I’ve been on very few dates. When the day ends I have good intentions on spending time on myself, but then I usually collapse. I was asked to do an episode of The Millionaire Matchmaker, and filming was fun. Patti Stanger basically did a lot of the role-playing with me because she thought I had zero game. It was weird, but in the end she was trying to get me out of my shell and be more relaxed and outgoing.
How is Dannielynn doing at school?
She’s doing great. I thought it was important to send her to public school, where she is exposed to kids of all different backgrounds, races and cultures. Parents may recognize us, but everyone is so nice and supportive. One of her classmates told her, “You and your dad were the answer to a Jeopardy! question last night!” She there are things like that, but she’s just your average kid.
