It’s been a big year for Miles Teller, who starred in three buzzed-about movies that helped put him on the map. But did he just completely diss the most popular of them all!?
The actor didn’t have a huge part in Divergent, but played the important antagonist, Peter, to Shailene Woodley’s Tris Prior, and in a new interview with W, he comes off as regretful in terms of the role. “When I first read Whiplash, I was feeling dead inside,” he said of his new movie. “I didn’t have an interesting part [in Divergent], and I’d taken the film for business reasons: It was the first movie I’d done that was going to have an international audience.”
When the public got wind of these comments, the 27-year-old faced major criticism, and immediately retracted the statements. “Accustomed to being more involved in the process of filmmaking, Miles regrets those words,” his rep said in a statement. “He does value his relationship with Lionsgate and his participation in the franchise.”
Miles himself added on Twitter: “I’ve never done a movie for “business” reasons. I’m proud to be a part of Divergent franchise and love all of Peter’s Princesses.”
Luckily the Whiplash star was able to do the damage control…he’s starring in Divergent’s sequel Insurgent, due out March 20, 2015!
