A recent trip to Italy provided some dangerous temptation for Owen Wilson! Reps for the actor deny he has a drinking problem, but attendees of the Venice International Film Festival in late August say he was definitely partying throughout the trip.
“When I saw him at the PalazzinaG Hotel’s after party, he had a vodka soda with lime in hand,” an eyewitness tells Star. “He was definitely in party mode.” And the partying wasn’t limited to that event, either. “He was bouncing around town, hitting up every event he could,” the source adds. “He was out late every night with friends, flirting with girls and drinking, mostly vodka.”
Even when his pals weren’t around, the Wedding Crashers star made the rounds by himself. “He hit up Harry’s Bar solo and flirted with a hot, young blonde, laughing and chatting late into the night. He was on the hunt!” the insider dishes.
Because of his past — Owen reportedly attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in 2004 and attempted suicide in 2007 — those close to the star are especially concerned. “People who know and love him are worried,” a friend says of the Dallas-born actor, who was also spotted partying in Hollywood just weeks before his trip to Italy. “You never know whether it’ll be a single glass of wine or a dozen cocktails. Between his issues with substances and the mental health issues, it’s a slippery slope that no one wants to see him go down.”
Friends believe that Owen’s downward spiral began in 2005 when he broke up with Kate Hudson. Since then, he hasn’t had much dating success — he split up with his first son’s mother, Jade Duell, and in 2013, he fathered a second child with a personal trainer with whom he wasn’t in a relationship.
“This wasn’t the way Owen saw his life working out,” an insider admits. “It bummed him out. We know he was able to bounce back once, but we’re not eager to find out if he can do it again.”
