CeeLo Green’s PR team likely had a lot on their plate this week!

The singer caused quite a controversy when he tweeted a very unpopular opinion about the subject of rape (he recently pled no contest to a felony charge for allegedly slipping a woman ecstasy without her consent in 2012). “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously!” he wrote. “So WITH implies consent. people who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”

In CeeLo’s case, the woman claimed she woke up with no recollection of what had happened the night before, so there wasn’t enough evidence to file a rape charge.

The Voice judge eventually deleted his controversial tweets, and took to the social media site late Tuesday to apologize. “I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter,” he admitted. “Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.”
