Chris Brown seems to always be getting in trouble with the law these days!
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty on Tuesday to punching a man in the face in Washington, D.C. in October. During the time of the assault, he was on probation for attacking his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009.
According to TMZ, the Grammy winner admitted to misdemeanor assault and was sentenced to time served (he spent two days in a Washington, D.C. jail after the incident occurred). Prosecutors reportedly agreed not to ask for jail time, as they were satisfied that the R&B singer spent 131 days in a California jail earlier this year.
“As Chris Brown himself has now finally acknowledged, he punched a man in the face without provocation in the District of Columbia,” the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia said in a statement. “No matter your status of celebrity, you will be held accountable for such conduct in our city.”
Chris’ attorney argued that his client had suffered enough — his career has been on hiatus for almost a year — and said he wanted to take responsibility for his actions and promote his new album, X, coming out this month.
“I would like to the court that I’m sorry,” Chris said during the trial. His bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, was also involved in the attack, and was found guilty. Karrueche Tran was present in the courtroom to support her on-again boyfriend.
