Lady Gaga: Bankrupt During 2009 Tour

Lady gaga

2009 was a huge year for Lady Gaga — she one of the world’s most talked-about artists, with her singles “Bad Romance” and “Paparazzi climbing the charts.” Behind the scenes, though, the singer was struggling.

In a preview for EPIX’s new documentary Who the F— is Arthur Fogel, the 27-year-old admits that she was actually bankrupt at this period of heightened success. “I had three million dollars in the bank to my name and I threw it all into make my stage,” she said, referring to her 2009 Monster Ball tour. “So I was bankrupt during the show.”

The reason Gaga worked so hard to put that tour together? To impress Live Nation CEO Arthur Fogel…and it worked. “I remember he called me and he said, ‘We want to do this,'” she explains. “And he got Live Nation to write me a $40 million check and it changed my life and the life of my whole family.”

Who the F— is Arthur Fogel premieres on EPIX on March. 19.
