Macklemore took home four Grammy Awards on Sunday, but above the rest, there was one that the rapper didn’t think he deserved. The “Thrift Shop” singer took to Instagram to share a text he sent fellow nominee Kendrick Lamar, who he beat out in the Best Rap Album category.

“You got robbed,” the message read. “I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.”

In the end, Kendrick didn’t end up taking home any of the six awards he was nominated for, but he was part of one of the most talked about performances of the night. The rapper performed his hit “MAAD City” as a mashup with Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive.”

“I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys,” Macklemore captioned his photo. “But in that category, [Kendrick] should have won IMO.”

The 30-year-old was joined on stage by Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert and Madonna to perform the hit “Same Love,” during which Queen Latifah officiated 33 marriages in the audience. “Thank you to the fans,” he added on the Instagram. “You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all.”
