Season five of Duck Dynasty premiered on Wednesday, but is the show still raking in the viewers? In its first episode since Phil Robertson’s controversial comments to GQ, approximately 8.5 million people tuned in to the hit A&E show.
The number is certainly respectable, especially for a cable show, but it’s not Duck Dynasty’s best. Season four’s premiere in August had 11.8 million viewers.
In December, family patriarch, Phil, compared homosexuality to bestiality, and was subsequently suspended by the network from filming. However, his family stood by him, and threatened to end the show if the 57-year-old’s ban wasn’t lifted. Eventually, A&E complied, and Phil has stood by the comments that he made.
