Leave it to Mindy Kaling to make a joke in a situation where others may be offended! The comedian was one of four women featured on Elle magazine’s “Women in TV” cover, but the magazine is being criticized its portrayal of her.
The actress is the only woman of color featured, and while the covers for Amy Poehler, Allison Williams and Zooey Deschanel are all full-length, in-color shots, hers is cropped and black and white. “Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic,” a statement for the magazine said. “We think it’s a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV Issue.”
Mindy didn’t seem to have any problem with the photo, either. “Wishing for more skin on my @ELLEmagazine cover?” she tweeted. “Chris Messina & I are naked on a brand new #themindyproject tonight, ya pervs! 930/830 FOX.”
A few hours later, she directly referenced the “controversy” again, making another joke at the same time. “I love my @ELLEmagazine cover,” she wrote. “It made me feel glamorous & cool. And if anyone wants to see more of my body, go on thirteen dates with me.”
