Time to get with the 21st century, Target!
The Internet nearly broke down last Friday, when Beyonce shocked fans by releasing a surprise album with zero promotion. So far, the record has only been available digitally, a decision that has caused Target to refuse selling the album when physical copies become available.
“At Target, we focus on offering out guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is physically, it impacts demands and sales projections,” a spokesperson for the store explained. “While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach, and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new, self-titled album Beyonce.”
Target has collaborated with the singer in the past, and even offered six exclusive songs on her album 4. Beyonce, which includes 14 new songs and 17 videos, broke iTunes records by selling more than 800,000 copies in just three days.
