Ed Sheeran Clarifies Taylor Swift's F-Bomb at the VMAs

Taylor Swift & Selena Gomez

Thanks to Ed Sheeran, the record has been set straight! The singer clarified what Taylor Swift was referring to when she was caught on camera saying “Shut the f–k up” to Selena Gomez at the MTV Video Music Awards — and it’s not what we think.

Taylor originally received a ton of backlash for the comment, which she made while One Direction, her ex-boyfriend, Harry Styles’, band, was presenting an award on stage. Many speculated that the harsh statement was directed towards Harry, but according to Ed, his tour-mate was actually commenting back to something her BFF Selena had said.

Before the 1D announced the winner for Best Pop Video, Selena predicted that Miley Cyrus would win, although she was also nominated, which is what prompted Taylor’s f-bomb. In the end, the “Come and Get It” singer actually won the award, and was immediately greeted by a congratulatory hug from the 23-year-old.

“She went over to me straight after and said, ‘I think I messed up,'” Ed said of the blonde singer. Luckily, Harry didn’t seem too fazed by the controversy, and he and Taylor even posed for a photo, albeit, on opposite ends from one another, after the show.
