Miley Cyrus is certainly trying to create a unique style and sound with her new music, but the 20-year-old singer obviously has some influences that’ve helped shape the artist she’s become. In a recent interview, Miley breaks down her top five favorite female musicians.
At number five, Miley honors blues singer/songwriter Beth Hart, who she says has one of the best voices of all-time. She also adds that she can relate to her because of how much she’s been through in her life. Miley, sweetie, you’ve still got a long way to go on that one!
Coming in at number four, the “We Can’t Stop” singer chooses Nicki Minaj, who she says is the Lil’ Kim of her generation. Conveniently, Miley ranks Lil Kim as number three, but adds that you can’t choose one of the female rappers without the other. Interestingly enough, though, Miley explains that she relates a lot to Lil Kim, and she actually feels like the rapper is who she, herself, is on the inside. Weird.
Number two is rocker Joan Jett, who Miley says she wanted to BE when she was growing up. She reveals that she honors the “Bad Reputation” singer for being different than woman were “supposed” to be during her time.
Finally, at number one, Miley ranks her godmother Dolly Parton. She considers Dolly a legend and “the most special person in the world,” but also loves that she’s a real life Barbie doll. Okay, Dolly is pretty awesome, but this one is a little biased, no?
