Andrew Jenks: The Storyteller

Taking a break from the over-served silliness of Jersey Shore or Buckwild, MTV gets serious with the second season of the documentary series World of Jenks.

“A lot of times when I describe it people are like, ‘What? This isn’t on PBS?'” admits 26-year-old documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks. “I’m very grateful to MTV for letting me do it.”

On the new season, Andrew once again embeds himself with young people with compelling stories across the country. But whereas season one saw him drop by for one week, season two has Andrew filming the biggest moments in his subjects’ lives for an entire year.

The young people he follows include returning subject Chad, a young man with autism who’s graduating from school and looking for his first job.

The others — D-Real, a dancer who lost a brother to gun violence, and kaylin, an aspiring fashion designer battling cancer — prove just as inspirational.

“I feel like they represent the best of my generation,” Andrew tells Star. “I was looking for three people who were dealing with real issues that weren’t typical reality stuff where you’re getting into bar fights or silly things like that. They don’t feel bad for themselves; they’re dealing with tragedy and are turning it upside down.”
