WATCH: Katy Perry Says Bye to "California Gurls" With New Single Announcement

It’s been three years since Katy Perry released her summer, chart-topping single “California Gurls,” and now, the singer is making it clear that she’s leaving that era behind her.

In a video announcement for her new single, “Roar,” Katy burns the infamous blue wig she wore in the “California Gurls” video. The 30-second promo clip shows the 28-year-old in a dark, gothic outfit with a straight face as she lights the wig on fire before the words “Roar” and “August 12” pop up on the screen.

This reveal comes just days after Katy announced her new album Prism, which will be released on Oct. 22.

Meanwhile, while the singer is clearly busy promoting her new music, she’s also back on with her boyfriend John Mayer. Let’s see if they can make it last through their busy schedules this time around, though…
