The Voice Recap: Top 6 Power Rankings!

It’s almost time for another elimination on The Voice, but as announced in Monday’s live performance show, this time only one contestant will be going home. And so, after tonight, the Top 6 will become the Top 5.

So, let’s go over where we’re at. Blake is left with three artists left (Danielle Bradbery, The Swon Brothers and Holly Tucker), while Usher, Shakira and Adam Levine all have one (Michelle Chamuel, Sasha Allen and Amber Carrington, respectively). Tonight, Blake will either be down to two, or one of the other coaches will be completely out of it.

Here’s our power rankings after last night’s performances!

6. The Swon Brothers – Team Blake

For the brothers’ first song of the night, they chose “Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker, which was a great choice as it’s currently blowing up country radio. Maybe it’s just that I’m so obsessed with the song, but this was probably one of my favorite Swon performances to date. Unfortunately, it just still isn’t enough to overtake the powerful female voices that they’re up against.

The guys clearly connected with their second song “Okie from Musgokee,” chosen by Coach Blake, and it was totally fun to watch them have a blast on stage, but the performance showcased nothing special vocally. At this point of the competition, it’s about having those big moments…and the Swon Brothers just haven’t been able to do that.

5. Holly Tucker – Team Blake

Just like last week, I was kind of nervous to hear Holly would be doing an uptempo song like Reba McEntire’s “When God Fearin’ Women Get the Blues.” Last week, she pleasantly surprised me by being able to keep up with a fast paced song, but this time around, that shock factor wore off because it was pretty much just a lot of the same. However, there’s no denying that she sounded great on the track.

Holly gave another solid performance when she sang “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts, but in the grand scheme of the episode, it was overall a bit forgetful. It really is hard to have her so low on the rankings list, but the reason for that is simply that there’s just so many great singers in this thing, it’s almost hard to even pick an order at all!

4. Michelle Chamuel – Team Usher

For some reason, I’m not on “Team Michelle” like the rest of the world seems to be, but she has jumped up on my list a bit this week. Her first performance, Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,” was solid and sounded good. Not the best she’s done, but still respectable for this point in the show.

Michelle completely turned things around from her first slow, laid-back performance when she sang Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.” It was nice to see her rock out to a song that wasn’t by Pink for once…and I think she really did it justice (and, hey, Taylor thought so too…she stopped by Michelle’s rehearsal to give some feedback)! I loved Michelle in the beginning of the show, and I think this set really brought her back to that crazy rocker chick we’re used to seeing. Super fun, and sounded good, too.

3. Danielle Bradbery – Team Blake

In case you were wondering, yep…she’s still too darn cute! Unfortunately, Danielle’s first performance of “Shake the Sugar Tree” wasn’t necessarily her most memorable thus far, but she still demonstrated vocals that are mature well-beyond her age, and it’s so refreshing to see someone so young get on stage with so much confidence. How can you NOT smile while watching this gal?!

W.o.w! The last note Danielle hits in her performance of “A Little Bit Stronger” was just almost enough to get her to crack my Top 2! The entire performance was totally solid as it was, and then she completely brought it home by building up to a killer ending. I just couldn’t kick my girls Sasha and Amber out of the 1-2 spots, though…

2. Sasha Allen – Team Shakira

It’s not super easy to do an Aretha Franklin song justice, but Sasha did just that. Her powerhouse vocals came in handy for this set, and she totally killed it. After being a bit disappointed in her last week, I’d say she’s totally BACK in this thing now. Let’s just hope the rest of the world agrees..

I’ll admit, I was suuuuuper nervous when Shakira chose a country Carrie Underwood song for Sasha, but her remaining contestant proved she can do just about anything. Not only did she ooze sex appeal (come on, she ripped off her freakin’ dress!), but she sounded amazing, too.

1. Amber Carrington – Team Adam

The fact that Amber managed to sound so great and at ease while singing a song she’d never even heard of until Coach Adam suggested it is pretty remarkable in itself. She’s been the most consistent, to me, throughout this entire competition…and she didn’t falter from that a bit on Monday night.

Let’s be real, Amber totally owned this song. She killed it. And she looked amazing while doing it. This show is about having talent, and building on that talent as the weeks go on. As far as the Top 6 go, Amber seems to me like the contestant with the most natural talent that still manages to improve week after week. Plus, it’s so cute how Adam is totally invested in her after being the only chair to turn at the blind auditions!

So, where do we go from here? It really does seem like it’s time for a member of Team Blake to go home. Because all five ladies left in this thing are so great, it’s a no-brainer in my mind that the Swons are out. At the same time, I recognize how much America is on Team Blake and totally into country right now, so I can’t say I’ll be surprised if Blake keeps all three of his team members, either.

Amber is my favorite to win it all (she has been since the Battle Rounds), but will Adam be able to take the title away from his best frenemy Blake?! At the same time, America seems to totally love and relate to Michelle, so perhaps newbie Usher could make his vision for her stardom a reality? Meanwhile, let’s not forget that Sasha was one of Shakira’s STEALS from Team Adam (she went against Amber in the Battles), so will that decision be the ultimate pay off for her?

It’s all coming to a close pretty soon…stay tuned — we’ll have all the updates right here!
