Fight Of Her Life

Inside Olivia Newton-John's Desperate Cancer Battle

Doctors are optimistic and say it is very treatable.

W ell-wishes are pouring in from around the world for Olivia Newton-John, who revealed on May 30 that the breast cancer she beat 25 years ago has returned — and it’s spread to the sacrum bone in her lower back.
After the beloved Grease star missed the first half of her 2017 concert tour due to pain she originally thought was sciatica, the shock diagnosis forced her to cancel her June dates in North America as well. But friends and family say Olivia, 68, remains as upbeat as ever, determined to fight the disease with photon radiation and a mix of natural wellness therapies. “As always, she is very positive,” said John Farnham, her longtime musical collaborator.
And doctors say she has reason to be, because breast cancer that recurs and metastasizes after so many years — Olivia underwent a partial mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after she was diagnosed in 1992 — is considered very treatable. As the Aussie icon prepares to be treated at her Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia, sources say she’s drawing great strength and healing energy from all the people pulling for her. “The support means the world to Olivia, and her spirits are high,” an insider says. “She beat cancer before — nobody’s going to tell her she can’t do it again.”
