VID: First Teaser For The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

President Snow requests the attention of Panem in the first teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1! In one-minute clip, Donald Southerland appears in all white, while addressing the fictional city with a warning propaganda speech.

“Since the dark days, our great nation has known only peace,” he says. “Ours is an elegant system. We seek to nourish and protect. Your districts are the body. The capital is the beating heart. Hard work feeds us, and in return, we feed and protect you. But if you resist the system, you starve yourself.”

At this point, the camera pans out, to reveal that Josh Hutcherson’s character, Peeta, is obediently standing behind the President throughout the speech. This, of course, comes after he and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) resisted Panem’s system during the 74th Hunger Games, by forcing a tie in the fight to the death.

“If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed,” Snow continues. “I know you’ll stand with me, with us, with all of us. Together, as one. Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever.”

Of course, the address is an ode to the idea that, at the end of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss and several other Hunger Games competitors were able to escape with a group attempting to take down the Capital. Meanwhile, Peeta was captured by President Snow’s crew, and brainwashed to side with them.

Not much is revealed in this quick teaser, but it’s a reminder that the next movie is only five months away!
