The singer admitted to suffering from epilepsy, and revealed in 2009 that he "used to have seizures when [he] was a kid. [His] mother and father didn't know what to do or how to handle it."

The EXAMINER reported that he was a shy child, who was frequently bullied. His father left home before he was 10-years-old, and never had "a real place to call home." He became extremely shy, and even refused to have his picture appear in his 11th and 12th grade yearbooks after he failed to make the basketball team. However, he continued to pursue his music — and eventually became a cultural phenomenon.

He went on to marry
Mayte Garcia on Valentine's Day in 1996, and they had a son — Boy Gregory.
Star reported that their son was born on Oct. 23 — but died just a week later of natural causes. The singer refused to comment on his son.
