There was no shortage of couture confection at the 2015 Met Gala on Monday night. The theme for this year’s fundraising costume ball was “China: Through the Looking Glass” Some celebrities stayed true to the theme, a few veered way to the left, while others looked as though they got lost along the way.

THE GOOD: Beyonce stunned in a very naked Givenchy Haute Couture jewel encrusted gown. Colorful baubles adorned Queen Bey’s lady bits, but not much else, in this Ricardo Tisci creation.

THE GOOD: Justin Bieber sported an event appropriate custom Balmain black jacket with gold Chinese dragon detail. The rest of his Asian accented outfit was all black, tasteful and simple. Way to clean up Biebs! He even combed his hair for the big night.

THE GOOD: Jennifer Lopez didn’t bother with underwear in her Donatella Versace designed, jaw-dropping sheer mermaid gown, complete with a red sequined dragon, winding around her curves, shielding her private parts and dissolving into a shimmery flame embellished train.

THE BAD: Madonna was boring in Moschino as well – with ‘Rebel Heart’ scrawled in white on her gown, it was disappointing to see her depart from her usual outlandish garb, on a night where it would have actually been welcome.

THE BAD: Cara Delevingne’s Stella McCartney pantsuit and beaded bra was lackluster and wildly overshadowed by a myriad of cherry blossoms painted all over her arms, neck and décolleté, which, while clearly a nod to the theme of the evening, fell a bit flat.

'China: Through The Looking Glass' Costume Institute Benefit Gala
THE BOLD: Rihanna positively stole the show in an elaborate canary-hued creation by Chinese designer Guo Pei. The decadent, very long, very heavy train was outlined with golden yellow fur, and to complete the look, the ‘Diamonds’ singer wore a gold scrolling headpiece that framed her face and auburn hair perfectly.

THE BAD: Solange Knowles wins the award for most bizarre by far, in an intergalactic Giles Deacon mini dress, reminiscent of an embellished stingray attempting to swallow her face. If her aim was to ensure she’d be physically unable to attack her brother in-law Jay Z in an elevator like she did at last year’s MET gala – mission accomplished!

THE BOLD: Sarah Jessica Parker wore an enormous red flaming headpiece by Philip Treacy, blazing the fashion trail as usual. With help from H&M, Sarah designed her silky black one shoulder dress with red flowers and patchwork down the side.

Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs arrive for 2015 Met Costume Gala in NYC
THE BOLD: FKA Twiggs Christopher Kane designed her bold and sexy lace dress, painted to look like the intertwined body parts of lover’s – complete with a penis and a hem made of dangling feet. And on her arm she donned the best accessory a girl could hope for – her fiancé Robert Pattinson – who looked dapper himself in a traditional tux – making this their red carpet debut.

THE BOLD: Lady Gaga definitely made a bold fashion statement in a massive white Balenciaga kimono coat made out of what can only be described as a giant fisherman’s net with thousands of black feathers peeking out of it. Wearing black satin pants, sparkly boots and topping the look off with a warrior-like beaded tiara, Gaga delivered true fashion drama to the gala.
