Notorious feminist Lena Dunham opened up about her devastating disorder — endometriosis — to warn women all over the world about the importance of early diagnosis.

In February 2016, the Girls star's chronic condition even forced her to pull out of the show's press tour. "As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women's reproductive health," the 29-year-old actress wrote on Instagram.

"I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it's time to rest," her statement continued.

On April 19, Lena attended the 2016 Blossom Ball — a charity event to create awareness for endometriosis — to continue the brave battle against the disorder. When asked if there were on thing she could tell people about the condition she responded, "That endometriosis is real."

"You may be judging a sister, a daughter because you think that they’re being lazy, or that they’re complaining too much. Or that they’re treating their period like it’s too big a deal,” she explained.

Adding that, "You really have to look at the fact that they could be suffering from a very specific chronic illness, and that they’re suffering alone unless you lend a hand to them."
