According to the
Associated Press, the 52-year-old has been charged in Texas with continuous sex abuse of a child under age 14.

He was arrested Monday, January 14, and freed on $25,000 bond, according to Denton County jail records. He lives in a suburb outside Dallas.

Bartonville Police Chief Bobby Dowell said his office was contacted by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. After an investigation, they decided to arrest him.

According to the complaint and affidavit, John is accused of having a child perform a sex act on him in 2004 when the child was 4. The victim said it happened twice.

John played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Montreal Expos. He was the Most Valuable Player of the 1996 World Series, in which he led the Yankees to beat the Atlanta Braves. He was also inducted in the Rangers Hall of Fame.
