Fredrik Eklund isn't holding anything back on Million Dollar Listing New York this season — even his family's painful heartache.

The real estate broker and his husband Derek Kaplan shared their journey to fatherhood last season — and at the time of the finale in June, they were expecting twins. But in-between wrapping season 4 and beginning season 5, their surrogate miscarried.

The 39-year-old detailed their loss in an Instagram post back in September when shooting was expected to begin — and at the time, he was rumored to have left the show.

But now, Fredrik revealed to
Star exclusively that he feels that it was "worth it" to share his story with others.

"Now looking back at the whole season, I feel like it was important to me and I feel like a lot of things were resolved through filming it and talking about it," he explained.

“Maybe because I’m a guy, maybe because I’m in this very tough, competitive industry and conservative industry, to be able to be that sad and cry and feel defeated and broken is hard," Fredrik revealed.

"I wasn’t so much nervous [to share my story]," he explained. "It was new to me. I didn’t even know I could be so sad.”

For now, Fredrik remains hopeful that he will become a father some day, saying that his current plans will be revealed later on in the season.

"It ends in a good place," he reassured. "It's a very organic thing that has unfolded over the course of the last nine months of filming."
