Garth Brook was crowned the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year for the second consecutive year and sixth time overall on Wednesday, but before accepting the top award, however, Garth took to the stage to perform “Ask Me How I Know”, and he was quickly called out on Twitter by fans for his awful lip-sync performance.
Backstage, after winning the prestigious award, presented to him by the former EOTY honoree Reba McEntire, the Nashville legend admitted to lip-syncing his performance earlier in the night.

“We’re in the middle of 12 show in 10 days. Not 10 shows in 12 days, 12 shows in 10 days, “ he explained. “We did a game-time call on whether to sing the track or lip-sync, and decided to lip-sync. The voice just isn’t there anymore, and you want to represent country music as best you can.”

But, fans found it inexcusable. “Not what Entertainers of the Year do,” one Twitter user blasted.
Another said: “No!! He was lip-synching!! Totally not acceptable. I am so disappointed. He is a country music legend. And don’t tell me its or the sake of good sound, the sound has been awful the whole show and I’d rather hear that!”
Despite the criticism, the musician thanked fans again on Twitter, saying, “You’ve made me feel like the EOTY all tour long! Thank YOU!!! Love, g #CMAawards.
Wife Trisha Yearwood also shared her support via Twitter. “So proud of my husband, no words! Entertain of the Year and the lov of my life xoxo #CMAawards,” she said.
