Within seconds, the officers opened fire, delivering multiple shots to Alton's chest and back. He died soon after.
Although officers had been responding to a complaint that someone selling cd's was threatening people with a gun, it has yet to be confirmed whether or not Alton actually had a weapon.

The owner of the convenience store has since spoken out, saying that Alton, who leaves behind a wife and five children, had permission to sell cd's outside of his store, and that they had been friends for six years.
The Justice Department has since opened an investigation into this case.
