On June 28, Britain’s beloved queen of ballads announced to a packed house at London’s Wembley Stadium that she is throwing in the towel — or, rather the mic. “Touring doesn’t suit me particularly well,” the 29-year-old said in a handwritten letter that she projected onstage. “I’m a real homebody, and I get so much joy in the small things… I only ever did this tour for you, to hopefully have an impact on you the way some of my favorite artists have had on me live… I might never see you again at a live show.”

Now she’s hoping they’ll understand her decision to bow out. “She’s asking fans to let her retreat and embrace being a mom. That’s the life she really wants to lead.”
