It’s official: Emily Blunt will play Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns.
The long overdue sequel to Disney’s 1964 classic Mary Poppins is set in London during the Depression and picks up the story’s original children, Jane and Michael Banks, all grown up with families of their own. The film reunites Emily with director Rob Marshall who directed her in the movie adaptations of both Into the Woods and Chicago. Mary Poppins Returns has an anticipated release date of December 2018 and will have new songs and a new character, Jack the Lamplighter, played by none other than Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Looks like Emily’s character, originally played by Julie Andrews, has undergone a bit of a wardrobe makeover with small but stylish updates to her iconic over coat, flower hat, and carpet bag.
