Top Cop Turned Hollywood Star Bo Dietl Takes Criminal Turn In ‘Vinyl’

Private investigator and actor Bo Dietl— who was once a famous New York City police detective— is now such a heavyweight in Hollywood, he can choose his own roles from iconic directors.

In an exclusive video interview with RadarOnline.com, Dietl claims he originally auditioned for gangster Corrado Galasso in Vinyl, HBO’s new series about the 1970’s music industry in New York. But the Wolf of Wall Street star had his heart set on another part, that of homicidal promoter Joe Corso— and he wasn’t afraid to ask the show’s director and creator, Martin Scorcese, for what he wanted.

During the filmed audition, “I say my lines, then I look at the camera and say, ‘Marty, I’m Joe Corso!” Dietl, 55, recalls.

“The next day, Marty calls and starts laughing and goes, ‘I guess you’re Joe Corso.’”

Dietl, the founder of Beau Dietl & Associates, says he fine-tuned his acting skills with help from costar Bobby Cannavale, and he also has another top actor on speed dial: Wolf of Wall Street costar and friend, Leonardo DiCaprio.

But Dietl was still slightly uncomfortable while filming an orgy scene with Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, and some scantily clad extras.

“They had at least 80 people having sex,” he says about the scandalous set. “Simulating sex, completely naked, all around!”

In order to fit with the ‘70s grooming culture, “they had to actually put public hair on the girls,” he reveals. “They had to put fake mustaches on them.”

Watch Dietl on Vinyl, airing Sundays at 9 PM EST on HBO.
