Former Access Hollywood host Pat O’Brien was once on top of the world, until serious alcohol and drug addiction — plus an infamous voice mail in which he drunkenly begs a woman for sex, hookers and cocaine — left his life and career in tatters.
His memoir, released this August, blasts ex-fiancee Betsy Hoyt Stephens as a money-hungry harpy. But Star caught up with the now-married mother of two to get her side.
“I was shocked by the things he said about me in the book,” Betsy revealed. “The thing I really took issue with was that he called me a gold digger. I lived in a $3 million house when I met Pat. I had my own money. I didn’t need his.”
Nor, she says, does she need to hold on to any resentment. “I don’t resent him. I feel sorry for him,” she insisted. “He was this brilliant, charismatic, funny man. I adored him, and now he is…well, he’s an alcoholic. Last I heard his book only sold 2,000 copies and he’s living off government assitance. I pray for him every Sunday in Church.”
