These stars won major awards and hit the top of the A-List in the ’80s and ’90s — but their careers have taken a very different turn these days!
Check out what these previously huge stars are up to now…and how they’re still trying to remain relevant by starring in made-for-TV Christmas movies (Eeeeek!):
Harry Connick Jr.
Then: He’s nabbed three Grammys and had more No. 1 albums than any other jazz artist in history and set hearts aflutter with roles in Hope Floats and Dolphin Tale.
Now: Despite musical costars like Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett and Nashville’s Connie Britton, Harry nary sings a note in 2013’s Angels Sing. But it was nice to see him in a movie again!
Carrie Fisher
Then: Saving the universe from Darth Vader — while wearing a gold bikini — made her an instant icon and geek goddess in Star Wars.
Now: Carrie’s career has gone to a galaxy far, far away — starring as a grinchy executive in 2012’s It’s Christmas, Carol! alongside Queer Eye’s Carson Kressley.
Linda Hamilton
Then: She kicked robot butt in The Terminator and its sequel and was wed to the film’s director James Cameron from 1997-1999.
Now: Hasta la vista, A-List! The tough gal went soft for 2006’s Home By Christmas, in which she played a rich woman who ends up homeless.
Steve Guttenberg
Then: With hits like Police Academy, Cocoon and Three Men and a Baby, Steve was the comedy king of the ’80s.
Now: Steve starred in the holiday version of Meet the Parents that nobody wanted, 2005’s Meet the Santas.
Sean Astin
Then: He roamed Middle Earth alongside Frodo in last decade’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, which made $2.9 billion worldwide.
Now: The sidekick once again, Sean played an elf helping the new Santa take the reigns in 2013’s Santa Switch.
Mira Sorvino
Then: She won an oscar for her role as a hooker with a heart of gold in Woody Allen’s 1995 flick, Mighty Aphrodite.
Now: In 2012, Mira channeled her inner Golden Girl to play Santa’s wayward wife in Finding Mrs. Claus. A paycheck’s a paycheck!
Anne Heche
Then: She played opposite Harrison Ford in Six Days, Seven Nights — and opposite Ellen DeGeneres in real life as her partner.
Now: This season’s One Christmas Eve centers around a single mom and rascally beagle — a plot that is almost a random as Anne’s career…
Brandon Routh
Then: Touted as the next big thing, Brandon starred in 2006’s Superman Returns.
Now: In Hallmark Channel’s new flick The Nine Lives of Christmas, as stray cat helps Brandon find love. If only it could find him a better agent…
