She spent several years out of the spotlight, starting a family and taking a break from her career, but just as Hilary Duff started to make her comeback, she also had to share some disappointing news — she and husband, Mike Comrie, were separating. In the new issue of Elle Canada, the “All About You” singer dishes on what it was like to have that aspect of her life so scrutinized.
“I have a good therapist,” she laughed. “I’ve dealt with [attention] for such a long time. But some of the biggest struggles that came my way in the past two years — like my separation or when my parents separated — were the first times I had to deal with people knowing about something personal happening to my family. It just felts so invasive and insensitive. It got really gross, and I think part of you gets a bit desensitized. The best way to handle it is by just owning your s—. I’m human and this is what happened. None of us is perfect.”
Luckily, it was an amicable split between the couple, who were spotted holding hands while heading to a Halloween party as recently as two weeks ago.
Following the split, Hilary’s ex from her teenage years, Aaron Carter, made some public attempts to woo his lady back. She’s made it clear that the messages made her a bit uncomfortable, but now, she has a more direct message for the former pop star. “I don’t know what to say,” she admitted. “The more i talk about it, the more I think he’s going to talk about it. We were like 13 and 14…I don’t want him to be hurt — I don’t want to make anyone feel like that — but it’s time to move on. I have.”
