Joan Rivers Dies at Age 81

A week after her heart stopped beating during a vocal cord surgery, Joan Rivers has officially been pronounced dead. The Fashion Police star died peacefully at the age of 81 in New York City.

On Wednesday, Joan was moved from intensive care to a private room, and on Thursday, Sept. 4, her daughter Melissa Rivers took her mom off life support so she could pass comfortably.

Joan rose to prominence as a funny guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and subsequently launched a rival program. Afterward, Carson never spoke to her again.

Joan survives her daughter, Melissa, and grandson, Cooper.
