Jill Duggar Reveals Why She Announced Pregnancy So Early

Just two months after their wedding, Jill and Derick Dillard already had more exciting news — they’re expecting their first child! Because of the couple’s infamous decision to remain “pure” until marriage (they didn’t even have their first kiss until the wedding day), the quick announcement came as quite a big shock. Now, the reality star is opening up about why they just didn’t want to wait.

“Understanding that the majority of miscarriages happen within the first trimester, and believing that every life is precious no matter how young, we decided to share our joyful news as soon as we could,” she explained to Page Six.

In fact, the couple’s whole relationship was a whirlwind — they got married less than eight months after meeting via Skype. “We prayed a lot, prepared and really didn’t see any reason to have a long courtship and engagement,” Jill said. “Once we knew we wanted to get married, we didn’t want to put off the wedding for a long time and provide a stumbling block for ourselves; We proposed to save ourselves physically for each other within marriage, so we had a short engagement period. We knew that we weren’t going to prevent having children, so when we found out we were expecting within our first month of marriage we were thrilled!”

The 19 Kids and Counting star is due in March, but just like her parents, she plans on having many more. “I have loved having lots of brothers and sisters and although Derick comes from a family with just one brother, both of us would love to have as many children as God will give us,” she gushed. “We are also open to the possibility of adoption.”

Tune into 19 Kids and Counting on Tuesdays on TLC — Jill and Derick’s wedding will be airing this season!
