Chris Pratt’s starring role in the summer’s biggest flick, Guardians of the Galaxy, should mark one of the happiest times of his life. But, Star has learned that the actor is quietly harboring a major heartbreak over the tragic passing of his father, Dan Pratt, on June 30.
Following Dan’s passing, Chris’ brother, Cully Pratt, posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook. “After decades of fighting, Dan Pratt our funny and stubborn father died at Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington from complications related to his 20 year battle with MS [multiple sclerosis,” he wrote. “He was made very comfortable, said his goodbyes in his own way, and as of 8:26pm on June 30th he is in a better place. He will fight no more.”
Just days before Dan passed away, the 35-year-old star paid one final visit, posing for photos with his dad and brother during the trip.
“Chris was devastated,” a source tells Star. “He loved his father tremendously, and for him to have passed so tragically is heartbreaking. He puts a good front on while doing interviews, but behind the scenes, he’s a complete mess. [Wife] Anna [Faris] has been his rock through everything, and just keeps reminding him how proud his father is to have seen his career take off. This has definitely brought Chris and Anna much closer.”
