For the first time in seven years, Hilary Duff has released new music — earlier this week, her single and video for Chasing the Sun finally hit the web. Of course, since her last dip in the recording studio, a lot has changed for the 26-year-old.
During that time, the former Disney star got married to Mike Comrie, had a baby, Luca, and eventually announced her separation from the former hockey player. “I’m separated from my husband right now, which has been a very difficult thing to go through,” she admitted to Billboard. “But we have a lot of love for each other and we have this beautiful baby.”
That difficult time was inspiration for one personal song on the record. “There’s a song about my separation and my love for this person, but maybe we’re not meant to be together…or maybe we are. It’s very, very personal.”
Overall, though the album has a “happy spirit,” but that wasn’t always the case. “In the beginning, the album was a lot heavier and a lot darker because I think I just needed to get that out,” she explained. “Once I did get that out, a lot of fun came, and a lot of the, I think, spirit that I have, and a little bit of my party heart and a little bit of the dreamer in me that believes in fate — the album is very positive, it’s very up.”
The full album is expected to come out later this year. As of now, Hilary and Mike have made no moves to file for divorce.
