It was over a year ago that Zac Efron secretly entered rehab, and recovery is something he’s still working on every day. One of his recent (surprisingly) therapeutic tactics involved appearing on Running Wild With Bear Grylls, in which he went on a two-day excursion with Bear to put his survival skills to the test.
During his appearance on the show, which aired Monday, the actor discussed his trouble with partying and stint in rehab. “The challenging part was never the work,” he explained. “That was never it. It was sort of the in-between work. The social aspects outside of it. I mean, everywhere you go, to an extent, there is press. It can be confusing.”
Upon realizing that in his 20’s, Zac admitted, “You spend a lot of time in your house going crazy. Pretty soon, you need a social lubricant. Once I needed that, it became to go anywhere. It was getting to the point where I was caring less about the work and waiting more for the weekend. I couldn’t wait to go out and sort of let loose and have fun. But then when Monday and Tuesday were difficult to get through, I was thinking, ‘Ugh, this is bad.'”
He concluded that meditation and taking in nature, like during the experience with Bear, helped him cope and slow down his brain in the recovery process.
