Wendy Williams once slammed Simon Cowell for his drinking, calling him a “mess hiding behind the bottle,” but the New Jersey-born talk show host looked a little hypocritical as she celebrated her 50th birthday with an alcohol-fueled bash at NYC’s The Out hotel on July 17!
“Her husband was popping bottles for her all night,” an eyewitness reveals to Star. “It looked like they were both wasted.” Chaka Khan performed at the star-studded soiree that included CNN anchor Don Lemon and rapper Bow Wow — plus a whole lot of booze.
Photos from a party guest show Wendy being hosed down with Veuve Clicquot by husband and manager Kevin Hunter, and it wasn’t long before Wendy looked a little more than overserved. “Kevin was feeding her champagne straight from the bottle all night,” the insider explains. “She was soaked from sweat and booze and started to notice people looking at her. So she went back to her private VIP area and hid behind the curtain.”
One might expect this kind of binge from a college kid ringing in a 21st birthday, but for a 50-year-old with a history of drug abuse, it caused concern for some friends. “I was addicted to cocaine — crack cocaine,” the talk show titan admitted in 2013, of her 10-year crack habit that ended at age 30.
Now an insider says that despite champagne being a far cry from crack, Wendy still needs to be careful. “Addiction is addiction,” the friend warns. “She needs to watch out.”
