It was quite a surprise when Sofia Vergara announced last month that she was parting ways with her longtime fiance Nick Loeb, and Star has learned the truth behind their bitter breakup!
While the actress insists that conflicting schedules are to blame, it turns out the relationship had really taken a dark turn due to her hot temper. “Sofia would verbally attack Nick on numerous occasions,” a close insider tells Star. “It eventually got to him.”
The Modern Family star attempted to explain the breakup on her WhoSay account with an amicable statement, but pals say Nick has had to endure years of her abusive behavior. “She loved to pick fights,” a friend of the former couple explains. “She would start off belittling him. When he stuck up for himself, she didn’t like that. I’ve even seen her slap him in the face!”
His decision to finally end things comes after months of trying to tame the 41-year-old’s outbursts. “She would always agree to work on things,” the source continues, “but she can’t take constructive criticism. She doesn’t want to think that she does anything wrong. Somehow she always finds a way to place the blame back on Nick.”
For now, insiders say that Sofia is devastated over the split. “She begged Nick not to leave,” the pal adds. “They’ve always been on and off, but I have never seen a public statement of that magnitude be made. I couldn’t tell you if they will ever get back together. It’s never gone this far.”
