Listen up — because this won’t happen often! Leighton Meester and Adam Brody are not ones for discussing their relationship, but because they’re costarring in the upcoming film Life Partners, it’s bit hard to avoid!
In the film, which premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Gossip Girl alum plays a lesbian named Sasha, whose relationship with her best friend is threatened as a guy (Adam’s character) comes between them. “That pesky guy,” she joked to Newsday, of her real-life husband. “It’s about finding each other, and how it kinda hurts to change and grow…for the better, even. It was the best. We basically got to say whatever came to our minds. It was a lot of improv.”
Leighton and Adam actually met while working on the 2011 film The Oranges, but they were already dating in real life by the time they filmed Life Partners. “That came along just by chance,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘I’m going to be playing the person you’re not dating. That okay? I’m going to be playing the opposite of that.’ And, yeah, I’m biased, but he’s incredible in it!”
After just a year of dating, the couple got engaged in November 2013. They had quite the whirlwind relationship, though, and married in a private ceremony just three months later.
