She’s starring in the newest, expected big movie franchise, but Shailene Woodley isn’t too fond of every young adult book-turned movie that came before Divergent! In the newest issue of Teen Vogue, the actress dissed Twilight and the message it sent to its young audience.
“Twilight, I’m sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship,” she told the mag. “She falls in love with this guy, and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she is going to kill herself! What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve.”
It doesn’t seem the 22-year-old feels the same about The Hunger Games, though. In fact, she’s admitted that Jennifer Lawrence is the one who convinced her to take the lead role in Divergent, a point which she reiterated in the new interview. “I said no and everybody was shocked,” she explained.
That’s when she turned to J.Law for advice. “I asked Jennifer Lawrence, ‘Are you happy with your choice to take on The Hunger Games?'” Shailene continued. “And she said she wouldn’t change it for the world. She told me, ‘There are some things — don’t make a sex tape, don’t do drugs, don’t do things in public — that you wouldn’t want other people judging you for. But this is the best decision you’ll ever make.'”
There’s no turning back now, either! Divergent hits theaters on March 21, and filming for its two sequels is already planned.
