Lena Dunham Apologizes After Molestation Joke

Lena Dunham

Saturday was a big night for Lena Dunham, who hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time. During one of her sketches, the actress appeared nude, as she often does on her HBO show. This prompted a Twitter user to tell her, “You don’t always have to get naked!”

The Girls star jokingly replied, “Please tell that to my uncle, mister. He’s been making me!” After being criticized for trivializing sexual molestation, the 27-year-old immediately deleted the tweet and issued an apology in its place.

“I just made and deleted a not so great molestation joke. Sorry guys. I am really sleepy,” she wrote. “SNL has a way bigger audience than our usual cozy girls audience, so I was seeing a rash of very different kinds of twitter rage. But I should know better, and do. Even naked girls get embarrassed. Sleep well and thanks for an amazing weekend.”

Still, Lena called hosting SNL a “joyful” experience, and afterward, jetted to Texas for the South by Southwest Film Festival.
