Now that The Hunger Games has made its mark as a successful movie franchise, another Young Adult novel will come to life. In just a few weeks, Veronica Roth’s Divergent will hit theaters, starring Shailene Woodley.
The actress worked on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager for five years, and at first, was skeptical about joining the film, which is expected to reach similar to success to The Hunger Games and Twilight. It wasn’t until she got some advice from Jennifer Lawrence, who had to make the same decision a few years back, that she decided to take the role.
“She said, ‘You must do it. You will not regret it for a second,'” Shailene told The Hollywood Reporter. “‘Yes, there are some hard things, but there are so many beautiful things that will come from an opportunity like this.'”
Along with Divergent, and the three planned sequels, the 22-year-old is also starring in the upcoming The Fault in Our Stars, based off another, popular book. Besides those projects, though, she plans to take it easy. “I made five movies in the past year and five months and finished a TV show during that time,” she explained. “The second your boss or someone whom you really respect comes to you and says, ‘I can’t wait to see what you do next,’ there instantly becomes this new pressure of, ‘Wow, am I creating art for myself, or am I suddenly creating art for other people?'”
Divergent hits theaters on March 21.
